Join Us For Thursday, October 6 Rally
To all Friends of the Chicago Reader:
For 45 years, the Chicago Reader has been a big part of Chicago, delivering smart
and stylish arts coverage, incisive reporting on public corruption and social ills.
But for the past 10 years, management has neglected its editorial staff, with the
vast majority of our members not having a raise in almost 10 years!
The Editorial Staff of the Chicago Reader was certified in January 2015. Almost
two years later, the Guild still has no contract. Furthermore, the Company has cut
staff and valuable content.
Now, please help us demonstrate public support for the Reader. Attend our rally
on Thursday, Oct. 6, at noon on the sidewalk in front of the Reader’s offices at
350 N. Orleans, just north of the Chicago River and across the street from
the Merchandise Mart. We hope to have some fun and make a little noise so the Reader’s
top brass can hear us.
Former Gov. Pat Quinn, Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd) and CFL Secretary-Treasurer Bob
Reiter will be among our speakers and musician Jon Langford has agreed to play.
We expect other Reader supporters and allies in organized labor to participate as
well. This will happen rain or shine!
With your continued backing, we will win our fight to get a fair contract. And together,
we will demonstrate to the Reader’s owners that this independent and progressive
voice in journalism must be made stronger.
