After Graduating from St. Mary's College in 1986 Mike became an IATSE Local 631 Member in 1989. Early in his career Mike traveled serving as a Production Electrician, Console Programmer and Board Operator on major corporate presentations.

Mike was unanimously voted into Local 2 Membership in 1997. In 2005, Ravinia hired Mike as their Head Carpenter-Technical Director and Local 2 named him Ravinia Steward. In 2008 Mike served his first term as a Local 2 General Fund Trustee.

In 2011, Mike, an ETCP Certified Rigger, was appointed to Trustee of the IATSE Entertainment and Exhibition Industries Training Trust Fund by International President Loeb, a position Mike continues to serve.

Local 2 President Daniel Kelly Kerins elevated Mike from Local 2 Trustee to our Executive Board in 2016. Mike was elected by acclimation to the post of Local 2 Vice-President in 2017 and he was appointed Call Steward by Business Manager Craig Carlson who said, "Michael Robinson’s knowledge of our industry, his extraordinary relationships with our employers, his compassion for our Local 2 Sisters and Brothers combined with his honesty, integrity, sense of fairness and his ability to handle the tremendous pressure of this great responsibility will serve our members well."

Mike became President in 2019, upon the retirement of President Kerins, who stated, "I retire from this office confident that there is nobody in Local 2 better qualified than Mike Robinson to take over as Local 2 President."
