HISTORY
Local Two was originally organized in Chicago on March 15, 1887 as the “Illinois
Brotherhood of Theatrical Stage Employees, Inc.”, six years before the formation
of the International Alliance, I.A.T.S.E. The Union was then reorganized and chartered
under the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture
Machine Operators on July 17, 1893 .
PURPOSE
Local Two is dedicated to the principles of trade unionism. Among its objectives
in promoting trade unionism are:
- To improve wages and hours of work, to increase job security, and to better its
workers’ working conditions.
To advance economic, social, and cultural interests.
- To utilize any and all effective means to protect and continuously improve working
and living standards of workers.
- To promote and support free trade unionism and the institutions of democracy.
- To protect and preserve the Union as an institution and to perform its legal and
contractual obligations.
- To support and participate in programs of political education and action maintained
by labor organizations, and
- To establish and maintain a constructive and harmonious relationship between members
and their employers and promote the stability of the industry.
